Hyperleggera Design

This Ducati inspired design project was born from a Claudio Dominicali quote: "We working on a new superlight project; it will be a twin". This phrase gave the artist at sak_art design the impulse to create a new Ducati "Superlight" that has come to be known as the Ducati "Hyperleggera".

The project direction evolved from the concept that a motorcycle should be fun, agile and swift-even when stationary. Two colors, the sculpted bodywork, and the trellis chassis characterize the spritely livery. This chromatic binomial creates the style of this new project.

The front fairing strongly characterizes the motorcycle design. The two mirror/turn-indicators reference the pachyderm tusk. These create a central concave hole; from this emerges the frontal nose that includes the small and aggressive looking headlight.

The chassis is a derivation of the new Ducati Monster. A half-fairing wraps the chassis and includes two air-ducts. The engine is veiled by a fiberglass "ribbon" that also encloses the exhaust system. The tank is very muscular, with a form that is reminiscent of an animal-back. The rear zone has a racing seat for the rider and a seat for the passenger roofed by an aerodynamic tail. The seat-chassis includes stealthy passenger handles.

The motorcycle design plays off Monster 1100 equipment: Ohlins 43 mm fully adjustable upside-down forks, 320mm front discs with 4-piston radial calipers, fully adjustable Ohlins show, and Y-shaped 5-spoke wheels. For the engine, both the 696 and 796 powerplants will also be available. The final weight is expected to be 287 pounds.

The design concept also allows for a dozen color combinations plus three Ducati Corse versions with the new logo on the half-fairing and some special kit accessories in carbon fiber. The "Dark" version has a black chassis, special carbon fiber wheels and all the extra racing accessories.

Finally, there is the "genuine racer" model without lights, directions and rear-view mirrors. For this special Ducati the weight get down 265 pounds. The artist dream for this version is a dedicated championship. Is it a virtual dream or not?
