If winning the Daytona Flat Track in its AMA Pro Racing debut on the historic grounds of the "World Center of Racing" wasn't incentive enough, Daytona International Speedway, Arai Helmets and AMA Pro Racing has sweetened the pot.
Rounds 1 and 2 of the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Series will get underway on Wednesday, March 3 and Thursday, March 4 at the new quarter-mile lime rock Daytona Flat Track with $5,000 added money in the Arai Helmet Pro Singles Dash, Arai Helmet Expert Fastest Qualifier and Arai Helmet Expert Shootout.
Pro Singles and Expert riders will have an opportunity at an extra paycheck in the Arai Helmet Expert Fastest Qualifier. The fastest rider from either the Pro Singles or Expert's two timed-qualifying sessions each night will receive an additional $250.
The Arai Helmet Pro Singles Dash has been added to each night with the top two riders from the Pro Singles heat transferring to the Dash. Often called the roller-derby of flat track, the Dash is a four-lap pure-adrenaline-rush awarding the winner $250, second place $150 and third place $100. An extra bonus of $3,500 will be divided between the top 3 expert riders with the highest combined points in the expert dash and main events on Wednesday and Thursday nights. The top rider will receive $1,500, second place $1,250 and third place $750.
The Flat Track events, which have been held in Daytona Beach for more than 30 years, are being staged for the first time on the grounds of Daytona International Speedway. The Flat Track was first held at Memorial Stadium, which was located near Daytona State College. In the late 1980s, the event moved to the newly constructed Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium.
Last fall, field turf was installed at Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium and Daytona International Speedway constructed a new quarter-mile dirt track that is located just outside Turns 1 and 2 that now serves as the new home to the Flat Track events. The quarter-mile track is layered with the same lime rock that was utilized at Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium and lighting will be provided by Musco Lighting.
Tickets for each night of Daytona Flat Track racing are $25 for reserved seats, $20 for general admission standing room only and can be purchased online at daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.
