2012 Yamaha Wallpaper
For 2012, Yamaha revamped its flagship superbike, the YZF-R1, with a seven-level Traction Control System (TCS).
When paired with the three-level D-Mode electronic throttle control, the TCS, which was designed so riders don't feel any intervention when the system is in use, brings the latest electronic technology to a machine that's already more than proven itself on the race tracks.
Proven? Take AMA Superbike's Josh Hayes, for example. The Team Graves rider took both the 2010 and 2011 AMA Superbike titles on Yamaha R1 machinery.
But it's not only electronics that have been upgraded on the 2012 R1, which features the cross-plane crankshaft designed from MotoGP technology and Valentino Rossi's input.
The revamped R1 took more from the MotoGP M1 currently piloted by Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies, including a redesigned top triple clamp, and revamped footpegs for better ergonomics and boot-sole contact.
Regarding aesthetics, the 2012 Yamaha R1 receives a "new upper fairing with a revised headlight cowl for more modern and aggressive styling, new LED position lights for a more menacing and distinctive look, and new hexagon-shaped muffler caps and heat shields for a sharper profile at the rear."
