2012 GL1800 Video

The Honda Gold Wing has become the flagship motorcycle for riders serious about touring, whether solo or two-up. The bike provides comfort and all all the amenities needed for long-distance motorcycle touring.

But for 2012, Honda wanted to create an even finer Gold Wing GL1800, with many upgrades to the technical aspects. But don't think Honda only upgraded technical gadgets on the GL1800, such as the GPS navigation system - the motor and drivetrain have been also been majorly refined for 2012.

This YouTube video explains the highlights of these refinements to the 2012 Honda GoldWing's fuel-injected 1832cc six-cylinder engine, with words from some of the engineers that helped create the GL1800 designed for grand touring.

New 2012 - traded up from VTX1300S - But I wish that since I had to include my firstborn in the price - that the RPM's at 65 would have been around 2k - not close to 3k. The engine is definitely strong enough to hold - and would result in much better MPG.

As the price of the Ultimate touring machine climbs the improvements are not. I own an 08 loaded and now trimmed out nicely. The idea that any one who owns a Goldwing from 05 up, would consider this an upgrade is silly. By the way what's up with the two tone or three tone color scheme? Perhaps it will be a big hit someday but I'm not trading the solid Black w/ nice touches of chrome that I own.

Still the ugliest front end ever...

I like the two tone paint job and dual air slots on the front fairing. Not enough to make me trade up from an 08 with low mileage though.

So I had this theory that not only was moving a 10 year old manufacturing line half way around the world a bad idea, but it was very "un-japanese", and even less "HONDA!". To say that I didn't see this coming is an understatement. I figured a truley updated driveline and suspension if not a completely new motorcycle was forthcoming, man did I miss the boat, errr...bike?. I was on the fence about trading in my 2006 ABS on the new BMW, thinking Honda was cooking up something special, not anymore. Honda, you blew it, your bean counters are the reason your US market share is slipping away. Wake up! and be the quality inovators we knew and loved.

YOU ARE AN IDIOT AND DISGRACE TO THE MOTORCYCLE COMMUNITY. I BET YOU GOT BEAT UP A LOT AS A KID---IT SHOWS!!!!

Honda, please realize that plastic mods don't necessarily constitute a new model. I believe a built in cup holder on a 2010 model would have been better. Please get with the program and design a new model with more than upgraded plastic. Very dissapointed.

I can't believe it took 2 years to bring this motorcycle to market. I currently own a 2002 Goldwing and was looking forward to the 2012 model. I was hoping Honda would have at least added a 6 speed transmission and power windshield. Alas, mother Honda disappoints again. I think a better buy is a 2009-2011 wing. Same bike but lower price points.

I have had the Goldwing since 2002, and the new design is a sleeker, more aggressive profile. Having a fully integrated IPOD functionality is fantastic, since I used to have my IPOD strapped to the left cover and plugged into the AUX audio plug. It was dangerous to change songs, etc. My 2002 is a pearl yellow, and I like how it stood out from the crowd. I am disappointed that they did not bring back that color for this new version. The Pearl White looks classy, and a change of pace might not be so bad. I am impressed with the LINKED ABS system this time around, though I don't see any major powertrain improvements; was hoping for more cc's, larger fuel capacity. I don't know if I like the rear side storage design, looks kind of 1960's retro with the 45 degree angle look, but then again, something to get used to. Is the GPS a touch screen yet ???? anyone ?? Still waiting for that electric windscreen adjustment.

much ado about nothing!
purely cosmetic changes on the same platform- tell the truth!!
it saddens me to see the line between marketing and simple non truths blurred like this
obviously Honda has a lot of its 2010 and 2011 stock left to sell before they launch a real new model!
great bikes however
