2012 Gold Wing
The first wave of 2012 Honda releases was announced on Monday, with the public getting its first look at the new Gold Wing.
The 2012 Honda Gold Wing continues its legacy of two-up comfortable touring. All the amenities associated with touring aboard the Goldwing have been upgraded, such as an updated GPS navigation system with user-friendly programmability for sharing favorite ride routes with friends and other riders, which can be accessed online.
Regarding rider/passenger comfort, the suspension has been updated for comfort but with enhanced sporty capabilities. The motor and drivetrain have been refined, and the 2012 Goldwing has extra luggage space, and greater protection from wind and weather.
Additional packages are available for the 2012 Honda Gold Wing, including Navi, ABS and airbag options.
The 2012 Gold Wing price will be from $23,199 to $28,499 and will become available in the USA in May 2011.
Bill Savino (Powersports Press Manager) says: "(These) 2012 new-model releases really illustrates the great diversity we have in styles of machinery for Honda customers. The Gold Wing serves as the newest extensions of incredibly popular models that have built up large and loyal fan bases in their respective fields over the years.
"The Gold Wing now expands its reputation as the premier touring motorcycle in the world...and we're equally excited about the additional new releases to follow later this year."
The Honda Gold Wing's first public appearance will be at the International Motorcycle Show in Greenville, South Carolina, Feb. 25-27, and Daytona Bike Week in Daytona Beach, Florida, March 5-12.

They took a very good looking bike and screwed it up, then called it a "new design". The chopped off saddlebag at the rear and the looks of the tag plate area are hideous! The rest of the bike is basically not even a change. They claim the saddlebag area will hold more but it looks like it would hold less. I would rather rebuild a 1500 and make it as good as new before buying this new GW. BMW or Harley D is my only choice now for a brand new bike as the GW is ugly.
For now, I'm very happy with my 2006 GW and will keep racking up the miles on it.
So I had this theory that not only was moving a 10 year old manufacturing line half way around the world a bad idea, but it was very "un-japanese", and even less "HONDA!". To say that I didn't see this coming is an understatement. I figured a truley updated driveline and suspension if not a completely new motorcycle was forthcoming, man did I miss the boat, errr...bike?. I was on the fence about trading in my 2006 ABS on the new BMW, thinking Honda was cooking up something special, not anymore. Honda, you blew it, your bean counters are the reason your US market share is slipping away. Wake up! and be the quality inovators we knew and loved.
Auf Wiedersehen Honda,

I not happy that Honda brought the gold wing back to Japan for production. If I thought it would help I would protest buying it, but I doubt it would make a difference, Most Honda fans will buy it if they can afford it. Thats the ongoing problem,, is the price is just going through the roof. I would rather buy used for say $14K, use a paper map like I have used for years and spend all that saved money on more trips and another bike. I just got done with riding a 2008 BMW RT, I loved it and never been complemented more about a bike and I had Road King Classic, Ducati 998, and many more. Problem with BMW was seat and wind protection just not good enough for long distance for harsh weather. I still loved BMW but RT didn't solve my long distance comfort needs,,,,,, After 200 miles in the seat with a goal of 300 miles a day I either got bored or sore,, The new prices of GW or BMW make me question if I should just not sink $25K plus into bike,, and ride less a day on cheaper bike and use the saved money on motel room.
I'm glad I went ahead and bought a used 2008 GW w/ABS instead of waiting for the 2012.
Honda - Wake up. No, Six speed; No weight reduction; same engine.
Ok, cudos for the appearance, which is not much of a change; and the minor electronics upgrades. Most GW owners do the after market upgrades anyhow, so you didnt do much of a favor.
Bummer over all.
BMW - keep up the work.
