James Stewart Video
Though it was cold and snowy in Salt Lake City Supercross Saturday evening, San Manuel Yamaha's James Stewart began solidly, churning out the hottest laps in the early practice sessions.
Then in his Heat race, Stewart grabbed the holeshot and led all eight laps, finishing almost nine seconds ahead of the Supercross field.
The Haines City, Fla., native repeated his holeshot in the main event, and began gapping the field. But midway through the race, Stewart lost the front end on his Yamaha YZ450F.
He remounted quickly, but then crashed a few feet later in the whoop section, giving the lead to Ryan Villopoto, who eventually won the race and retained the championship points lead with one race remaining (Las Vegas). Stewart would finish 10th in Salt Lake City Supercross.
James Stewart (San Manuel Yamaha YZ450F Supercross) says: "I'm pretty bummed out, things definitely didn't go as planned. It's been an up and down season, but I've tried my hardest all year long. Thank you to everyone for your continued support. I'm going to keep striving to get better and will try to get another win before we end this thing."
Stewart is in fourth, 34 points behind Villopoto as the 2011 Supercross Championship heads to Las Vegas for the season finale.
