2011 World Superbike
After earning his 11th World Superbike victory in race 1 at Nurburgring, then following it up with an eighth in a rain-soaked race 2, Carlos Checa leads the Championship with 373 points.
With only three rounds remaining following Nurburgring, the Althea Ducati rider now has a 74-point lead over second place's Marco Melandri on the Yamaha World Superbike R1.
The race 1 victory at Nurburgring was typical of Checa; he would get to turn 1 first after starting from pole, and lead all 20 laps to the checkered flag. Joining him on the podium was Melandri and Pata Racing Aprilia's Noriyuki Haga.
Race 2 was run under entirely different conditions than the dry race 1. Checa would run a patient race under horrible conditions, finishing eighth. The win looked to go to Haga, but he crashed out before the race was called on lap 14 due to rain.
Winning the second Nurburgring World Superbike race was Kawasaki's Tom Sykes, which was his first WSBK win, and also the first for Kawasaki since 2006. Joining Sykes on the podium was Team Effenbert Liberty Ducati Team of Sylvain Guintoli and Jakub Smrz, respectively.
Attached are video highlights of 2011 Nurburgring World Superbike; race 1 is attached above, with race 2 below.
