2011 MotoGP Top Lorenzo Pics

Heading into round 16 of 18 in the 2011 MotoGP Championship at Phillip Island, Yamaha Factory Racing's Jorge Lorenzo was the only rider capable of battling for the title with Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner.

But the round wouldn't be so luck for the 24-year-old Spaniard. During warm-up for Phillip Island MotoGP, the 2010 Champ Lorenzo crashed his Yamaha M1. While crashing, his clutch hand's ring finger became lodged under the handlebars, the incident tearing the top of his finger off.

Following the crash, he underwent successful plastic surgery, but was forced to miss not only Phillip Island, but also Malaysia and the season finale in Sepang.

Regardless of missing the final three rounds, Lorenzo garnered enough points with his 10 podiums that included three wins (Jerez, Mugello, San Marino) to take second overall behind 2011 MotoGP Champion Stoner.
