Riders for Health Charity Auction
En route to winning the 2010 MotoGP Championship, Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo visited the iconic Isle of Man for the famed TT races.
But he didn't just arrive as a spectator; while there, the Spaniard completed a parade lap of the iconic 37.73-mile Mountain course aboard a Spartan-Warrior themed Yamaha YZF-R1.
Lorenzo's R1 featured a design by London's John Holland, who won a contest put on by Europe's Motorcycle News (MCN); the publication invited readers to submit designs to feature on Lorenzo's bike, and out of multiple submission, Lorenzo chose Holland's design.
And now this specialized R1 will be placed on the block in the Riders for Health auction supported by Arai at Carole Nash Motorcycle Live in Birmingham Sunday, Nov. 20. All proceeds will help MotoGP's official charity, Riders for Health.
The R1, which was recently ridden from the UK to Spain by the BBC's Matt Roberts as part of the Viva Valencia! Adventure, was also signed by Lorenzo.
Rider for Healthy says it is "asking all those who would like to bid on this bike to register their details prior to the auction. To download an order visit riders.org. Remember to bring your form with you to the NEC. You will also be able to pick up registration forms at the show from Riders for Health on stand G468.
"For those who will not be at the show on Sunday, but who would still like to bid, Riders for Health will be making it possible to bid by telephone. To register your interest, email rfh@riders.org. Riders for Health will then email you with the information and a registration form. For more information, please call the Riders for Health office on +44 (0)1604 889 570."
The Lorenzo R1 is valued around $18,000, but Carole Nash will also provide a voucher to insure the machine ($790).
The bike will be one of the star lots at the Arai auction, at Motorcycle Live on Sunday 20th November. All the proceeds from the sale of the incredible items available at the auction will go to supporting Riders for Health's work in Africa.
