With his AMA Supercross win Saturday evening at Edward Jones Dome, St. Louis, San Manuel Yamaha's James Stewart put an end to his eight-race losing streak.
During St. Louis Supercross, Round 14 of the 2011 AMA Supercross Championship, Stewart started behind holeshot-winner Hart & Huntington/Dodge Motorsports Kawasaki's Ivan Tedesco and the reigning Supercross Champion, Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey.
But on Lap 2 of 20, Stewart took the lead, keeping it to the end. Joining Stewart on the podium were Dungey and Monster Energy Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto. With his win, Stewart is now in fourth in the overall Supercross standings, 16 behind leader Villopoto.
James Stewart (San Manuel Yamaha YZ450F) says: "Wow! That was pretty special out there tonight," Stewart said. "I was able to get a halfway decent start and started making up for some things. I've been really trying and this weekend really came through for me. I can't thank my fans, my team, my sponsors, and my family enough. You guys are the reason I'm still here."
"Man, I was more emotional there than winning the championship. For me, it was just everything. I guess the last eight weeks just started coming out of me and I just couldn't hold it in. I was trying to. It was just special. When you can't do right on or off the track, having my sponsors say, 'we still stick behind you even after some losses,' and the fans still cheering and all that; I just think it was special. And, for me, it was super-emotional."
