2011 BMW Motorcycle Sales
The record-breaking trend continues at BMW Motorrad. The Bavarian motorcycle manufacturer again reported positive year-on-year sales for the month of November.
BMW says during the month of November, 6,112 motorcycles were delivered, compared to 5,883 in November 2010. This is an increase of 3.9 percent.
But the more impressive number is for sales for the first 11 months of 2011; BMW reports it delivered a total of 100,054 motorcycles compared to 95,283 during the same 11-month period of 2010. This is an increase of 6.1 percent, and all together, BMW has sold 2007 more motorcycles in the first 11 months of 2011 than it did in all of 2010.
BMW says: "With the expected December sales, BMW Motorcycle will reach its target for this year. With sales of over 103,000 motorcycles, the white and blue motorcycle brand will deliver more vehicles than ever before in its nearly 90-year-old history."
As for the BMW-owned Husqvarna, 7,956 motorcycles were delivered in the first 11 months of 2011, compared to 10,266 in 2010; this is a decrease of 22.5 percent. BMW says November accounted for 1,181 deliveries (prev. yr. 1,650 / -28.4 percent).
BMW says thanks to its positive sales performance in a persistently difficult overall market, BMW Motorrad has continued to expand its global market share of the relevant segment above 500cc.
At the start of the 2011 season, Bavarian motorcycle customers benefited from the revised flat-twin engine roadster BMW R 1200 R that for the first time will also be available as a classical variant. Moreover, the motorcycle manufacturer presented the new G 650 GS, yet another particularly appealing GS model with a single cylinder engine.
The first half of the year will see the launch of the K 1600 GT and the K 1600 GTL, innovative, de luxe touring motorcycles with six cylinder inline engines, the first of their kind in the history of BMW Motorrad. Featuring the most compact six cylinder inline engines in series motorcycle production, these two top models in the BMW Motorrad range unlock new dimensions for riding, long distance, and comfort characteristics.
