2011 Motorcycle Sales

In January, BMW reported a 23.6 percent growth in year-on-year motorcycle sales, a very respectable number in a challenging economy.

And this growing trend continues, as the German motorcycle manufacturer reported a 22.5-percent increase in year-on-year sales for the month of February.

BMW says it sold 6,720 motorcycles in February, compared to 5,485 in the same month last year; this makes for 11,434 motorcycles sold from year to day, which is up 23-percent over the first two months in 2010.

BMW says the second motorcycle brand of the BMW Group, Husqvarna Motorcycles, delivered 902 motorcycles (+46.9 percent) to customers in February. Year-to-date sales grew 46.1 percent to 1,264 motorcycles compared with the first two months of 2011.

And BMW expects even more growth due to some revised and new motorcycles. In 2011, BMW customers will benefit from the revised flat-twin engine roadster BMW R 1200 R that for the first time will also be available as a classical variant.

The Motorrad department also has the new G 650 GS, yet another particularly appealing GS model. The adventure motorcycle, built to be pleasant both on and off the street, features low weight, a low seat height, comfort, intense German technology and the motor that's made BMW enthusiasts satisfied for a long time now, the tried and tested single-cylinder engine.

The first half of the year will see the launch of the K 1600 GT and the K 1600 GTL, innovative, deluxe touring motorcycles with six cylinder inline engines, the first of their kind in the history of BMW Motorrad.

Featuring the most compact six cylinder inline engines in series motorcycle production, these two top models in the BMW Motorrad range will be unlocking new dimensions for riding, long distance, and comfort characteristics.

Above and beyond these, the model range from BMW Motorrad will be presented at its best in 2011. The adventure worlds Enduro, Tour, Urban, Sport, and HP will be presenting fascinating motorcycles for virtually every taste. The range will be supplemented with an extensive line of options and innovative BMW Motorrad rider equipment.
