2011 MZ Scooters
The German Motorenwerke Zschopau GmbH (MZ Motorcycles) is turning its range of forward-looking scooters with electric drives and combustion engines into a complete scooter fleet with three classic four- and two-stroke models.
Emmely E-Scooter Zero
The Emmely E-Scooter is an environmentally-friendly two-seat scooter. The brush-less 1200 watt electric motor accelerates up to a maximum speed of 45 km/h (28 mph), and it can be driven in Germany by a 16-year-old with an insurance and a Class M driver's license.
Another version with a top speed of 25 km/h (15 mph) is in the works. MZ chose a lithium iron phosphate battery (LiFePo4), which is currently the most modern technology in use for light motorcycles. LiFePo4 storage batteries are characterized by low weight as well as easy operation.
The charging time from a normal German 230 volt socket equals about six to nine hours, and fully-charged, the battery makes a range of up to 70 kilometers (43.49 miles) possible.
Performance is dependent on the rider's behavior, the payload and the terrain conditions. The emission-free Emmely E-Scooter is particularly well-suited for young people who mainly take short rides in city traffic.
Emmely 50-4T and 125-4T
The MZ Emmely 50-4T and 125-4T have the same design as their sister scooter models from the electric drive or hybrid ranges.
Although they have comparable equipment, both Emmelys with pure four-stroke motors are somewhat lighter than the hybrid pendants EL2-Hybrid and EL3-Hybrid because they come without the heavy electric drive components.
The effect of the 12 V/9 AH battery, more than sufficient for the four-stroke models and used here instead of the 48 V/40 AH high performance batteries the hybrids have, is really felt in this model.
By forgoing the environmentally-friendly operational modes of the electric and hybrid versions, the four-stroke models can be offered for much lower sales prices.
Anthony 50-2T
The two-stroke Anthony 50-2T, with its name and racing design in the green and white MZ company colors, is reminiscent of MZ's participation in the Moto2 World Championship. In 2010, the Australian Anthony West represented the MZ motorcycle brand.
Thanks to the robust but effective two-stroke technology, the Anthony weighs a few kilos less than the four-stroke Emmelys. This and the zippier power deployment of the two-stroke model make the Anthony the sportiest MZ scooter to date.
What the Emmely and Anthony scooters have in common, is that they were co-developed at MZ in Hohndorf / Saxony. It is there that MZ also test the final motorcycles to determine whether they satisfy the MZ brand's defined performance and quality standards.
There are plans to assemble the scooters in Hohndorf, where MZ also owns a production facility for these types of motorcycles and scooters.
