Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. launched the new 2011 Ninja 400R, a 400-cc sport-model motorcycle with full fairing, in Japan on August 1st.
In response to market demand, Kawasaki started selling of
the Ninja 400R, a general sport-model with genuine full fairing inherited from the super-sport Ninja series to give it both aggressive styling and refined functional beauty and make it ready for anything from sport riding to touring.
With its compact and highly rigid diamond-shaped steel frame chassis, the Ninja 400R combines superior riding performance with easy handling.
Its lightweight and compact liquid-cooled, four-stroke, parallel twin-cylinder DOHC four-valve engine (399 cm3) delivers engine performance that is smooth and powerful at low- and mid-range speeds, while its fuel injection system and three-way catalyzer provides superior environmental performance in conformance with the 2007 Japanese national emissions regulations for motorcycles.

I think the point of this bike is that it is less than 600cc's and therefore will fall under the radar of high insurance rates. Less than 600cc bikes are much cheaper to operate (insurance wise), I think that is what they are going for with this bike.
Seeing a lot of complaints about this bike being virtually identical in shape, style, form, weight, etc as the 650R. A lot of people asking why would you not pay the extra $1200 CDN in order to get a 650R? I like the idea of a 400cc gap filler (sans the 500R lost last year). Is there any chance, however, to convert this bike to a 650cc a la Harley and the 883cc to 1200cc conversion of the Sportster? The bike is identical other than the bore, stroke and injection. Just wondering if anyone had an answer to this question or whether or not the process is feasible. Looks like a good entry bike with the ability to jump performance (if conversion is possible) when desired without having to upgrade to another ride.
