Enduro Preview

Husqvarna is one of only two European manufacturers that survived the Japanese onslaught in motocross and enduro (the other brand being KTM) that began in the early 70s. Brands such as Ossa, Bultaco, Montesa, Maico, CZ, Greeves, AJS and Monarch all fell prey to the mighty Japanese development power.

But Husqvarna, despite numerous hardships, managed to remain competitive in the dog-eat-dog world of off-road competition. Their new 2011 TE310 is testament to the company's devotion to building the finest off-road machines available.

The TE310 Enduro starts life as a 250cc, with the 4-stroke engine's bore and stroke increased to 82 X 57.3mm, which punches out displacement to 302.44cc. The result-in addition to an increase in power and torque-is the lightest engine in the 250cc class.

Engine is fuel-injected, fed by a 45mm Mikuni throttle body. There are two fuel maps to choose from on the handlebar-mounted switch, allowing on the fly changes to suit terrain (for hard or soft ground conditions).

The TE310 has shed 6 kg (about 12 pounds) over its previous version. Other than the engine mods, the 310 shares features with its little brother, the TE250, such as a reinforced frame, Grimeca wheel hubs, 48mm Kayaba forks and a Sachs shock.

Gas tank capacity was increased to 8.5 litres in order to better cope with the demands of long enduro loops and is aided by a new fuel pump that draws fuel more efficiently. The air box has been redesigned to better thwart water and moisture from reaching the sponge filter.

Hand and engine guards have been redesigned and the bodywork utilizes a new In Mould process that incorporates the graphics directly into the plastic as opposed to add-on stickers. It all adds up to a sleek and aggressive profile for the 2011 Husqvarna 310.
