Jerez Day 2
The sole American, Kenny Noyes, ended day two of the three-day Moto2 Winter Tests at Jerez de la Frontera third overall after being consistently quick all day long and fastest in the wet. Very minor changes to set-up overnight made it possible for the American to improve significantly on his wet-track speed at mid-corner compared to times from the day before.
Toni Elias (Gresini Moriwaki) was fastest in the brief, dry interval, followed by Columbian Yonny Hernandez (BQR), Noyes and Álex de Angelis (Scot). Nine riders got into the 45´s today on a track that was chilly and at least slightly damp all day long.
The team was hoping for an extended dry period in order to make full use of the softer of the two Dunlop compounds, but when Kenny was on his best run of the day and on a pace to break into the low 45s (or better) a rain shower forced him to slow in the final split. Nevertheless, the Jack&Jones by Antonio Banderas team was happy with the steady progress of both riders, a good indication that the Anglo-Spanish Promoharris project is evolving favorably.
Rain returned just before the final one-hour session and Noyes, having already found good rain settings, opted to sit out the final 50 minutes. The team is looking forward tomorrow to drier weather and a chance to try a race simulation.
Kenny Noyes Speaks...
"We are really happy with the way everything went. I felt a lot more confident on the bike today in the rain and in the dry. I am so used to riding big production-based bikes that you can't modify that it is great to be able to actually solve problems rather than ride around them. I never really got a good dry lap on the soft tire, but the important thing is that we just keep improving the bike."
"If it rains tomorrow, we have one change we want to try, but hopefully it will be dry so that we can use the soft tires. I think that if we raced in these conditions the soft Dunlop would be the race tire."
"This bike just keeps getting better and we are understanding how to make the little changes to dial the bike in as conditions change."
