MotoGP Death

During the Moto2 GP race at the Misano World Circuit, on Sunday September 5, motorcycle rider Shoya Tomizawa aged 19 suffered a serious crash and subsequent cranial, thoracic and abdominal trauma.

Given the seriousness of his condition - especially the thoracic and abdominal trauma - Tomizawa was immediately treated at the Misano World Circuit medical center and put under artificial respiration.

The Moto2 racer was taken by ambulance to the Riccione hospital accompanied by two doctors - helicopter was not used in order to allow for the proper respiratory support to be administered. Despite various attempts to resuscitate him Shoya sadly succumbed to his injuries at 14.20.

Tomizawa had made his career mark at the inaugural 2010 FIM Moto2 Grand Prix, as the new 600cc four-stroke racebikes had replaced the traditional 250cc class.

When the checkered flag was waved, Technomag-CIP's Shoya Tomizawa rode into the history books as the first ever Moto2 race winner.

That was only 19-year-old Japanese rider's 19th Grand Prix start, were he so expertly took the lead on the sixth of 20 laps and held off the challenges of a determined quartet just behind.

Tomizawa pulled steadily away over the final six laps to win the historioc Moto2 race by 4.656 seconds.

Now, the entire MotoGP racing paddock and motorcycling racing world has been stunned and deeply saddened.
