MotoGP Crash News

After an accident involving Ducati Team rider Nicky Hayden at the Misano Grand Prix, Round 12 of the 2010 MotoGP season, a frustrated Loris Capirossi was told he had seriously injured his right hand.

On Monday, the Rizla Suzuki rider underwent successful surgery, having a 90-minute operation that reconstructed the bone in his little finger and "further work re-attached the severed tendon in the same digit."

Dr. Oliviero Soragni of the San Marino hospital performed the surgery.

Loris Capirossi says: "The operation went very well and I am very pleased with what Dr. Soragni told me after I came out of surgery. Dr. Costa was also present and he knows how the injury will heal and he will help me to make the right decision about when I can ride again."

"The bone has been reconstructed and I have been told I will get full movement back - which is great news - but at the moment the finger is immobilized so I don't cause any damage to the excellent work the surgeon has done."

Capirossi returned home to Monte Carlo, where he is recuperation. He is expected to make a full recovery, and be able to regain complete use of the damaged finger. It is unknown if Capirossi will compete at the next round of MotoGP, which occurs at Aragon in Spain on Sept. 19.

Although he experienced pain, and the crash wasn't his fault, he remarked on more somber news of the weekend.

Loris Capirossi says: "Although I am in a bit of pain, this is still nothing compared to what happened at Misano (Moto2) on Sunday and once again I want to send my wishes and prayers to (Shoya) Tomizawa san's family in their time of great sadness."
