After recently announcing increased sales in the second quarter of 2010, BMW Motorrad reported additional positivity for the month of July.

During these tough economic times, BMW Motorrad sales in July rose by 4.4 percent to 10,022 motorcycles over 500cc, a segment that's been on the negative side of sales across all manufacturers lately. In July 2009, BMW sold 9,604 motorcycles over 500cc.

With its young range of models, BMW Motorrad reported sales growth of 18.5 percent to 67,037 (prev. yr. 56,578) vehicles in the year to the end of July. The large long-distance enduro, the BMW R 1200 GS, remains the best-selling model in the BMW motorcycle range.

The GS will be celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. It is the most successful BMW motorcycle ever built and has become the world's best-selling motorcycle in the 500 cc and above range.

This news comes after positive growth was reported in BMW Motorrad's Q2 Report. In that report, sales of BMW motorcycles increased 21.6 percent to 36,715 units sold, compared to 29,742 in the second quarter of 2009. The Bavarian manufacturer says during the first half of the year, BMW Motorrad sold 57,015 units (2009: 46,974 units). This corresponds to an increase of 21.4 percent.

The number one seller was the long-distance enduro model, the BMW R 12000 GS. This BMW also became the best-sold bike in the 500 cc plus motorcycles segment worldwide.

Sales of the S 1000 RR - the first supersport bike manufactured by BMW Motorrad - reached a total of 6,459 units worldwide in the six-month period from January to June (of which 1,223 were sold in June).
