BMW Motorcycles

BMW Motorrad has continued it's positive trend, with a year-to-year sales increase of 18.1 percent, selling 982 more motorcycles this August than last year.

BMW says in the year to the end of August 2010, 73,442 (previous year 62,001) motorcycles were delivered to customers worldwide. All together, this represents 18.5 percent growth during a year-long period.

BMW says thanks to the positive sales performance in persistently difficult market conditions, BMW Motorrad was able to substantially expand its global market share in the relevant motorcycle segment above 500cc.

Market share in Germany rose 23.6 percent (previous year 18.8 percent). This means almost one in four new motorcycles sold is a BMW.

Market share in Italy (18.8 percent), Spain (18.8 percent), Belgium (21.1 percetn) and the Netherlands (18.9 percent) is also in the region of 20 percetn.

Top of the list is South Africa, where BMW Motorrad currently has a market share of 38.6 percent.

This news comes after positive growth was reported in BMW Motorrad's Q2 Report. In that report, sales of BMW motorcycles increased 21.6 percent to 36,715 units sold, compared to 29,742 in the second quarter of 2009. The Bavarian manufacturer says during the first half of the year, BMW Motorrad sold 57,015 units (2009: 46,974 units). This corresponds to an increase of 21.4 percent.
