Sturgis News
Indian Motorcycle's entire 2011 Indian Chief motorcycle lineup will be displayed in Sturgis for the 70th annual motorcycle rally. The American manufacturer will continue its tradition of introducing new products to the public at the Sturgis Rally by displaying the new 2011 Chief Blackhawk as well as new color options for the Chief Dark Horse.
Indian Motorcycle accessories will also be on display and apparel will be available for purchase. The Indian event truck is located on the corner of 4th and Lazelle Streets in downtown Sturgis. All 2011 Chiefs feature 110th anniversary badging as well as a 110th anniversary speedometer gauge.
Indian Motorcycle was founded in 1901 in Springfield, MA , and one of the company's original dealers, J.C. "Pappy" Hoel founded the Sturgis Rally. Indian Motorcycle, now located in Kings Mountain, NC, takes great pride in its rich history.
To further celebrate the 110th anniversary milestone, Indian Motorcycle is inviting all 1901- 2010 Indian owners to park their motorcycles, VIP-style, beside the Indian Motorcycle event truck. There will also be a special display of vintage Indian Motorcycles during the rally at the 4th and Lazelle location. Indian's goal this year is to provide a complete look at the past, present and future direction of the company.
Indian Motorcycle Company is proud to be associated with Tribal Hope for the second year. A free ride will take place on Aug. 10 from 4 and Lazelle in downtown Sturgis to Bear Butte to benefit the Native American charity.
There will be free coffee and doughnuts from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Indian Motorcycle event truck. The ride will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end in Bear Butte where a speaker will share the history of Bear Butte, it's significance to the Plain's Indian people and information on challenges affecting the Native people today. Everyone is invited to ride for this great cause.
Chris Bernauer (Indian Motorcycle General Manager) says: " We are all excited to be part of 110 years of history. Our new product, accessories and apparel show that Indian Motorcycle Company is looking forward while celebrating our past. We strive to achieve a great product through sound engineering, dedication to quality, exceptional dealers and outstanding customer service."
The 2011 Indian Motorcycles feature the American built 105 cubic inch PowerPlus V-Twin power train with electronic closed loop sequential port fuel injection. Engine cylinders are Nikasil plated and the stainless steel exhaust system has an integrated 3-way catalytic converter with heated oxygen sensors. A six-speed Baker transmission delivers power through the belt drive. Stopping is achieved via updated Brembo 4-piston calipers, with 11.5" dual rotors up front. Standard 5.5-gallon fuel tank helps extend cruising range. Seats are all leather and built to exacting specifications.
