IMS Motorcycle Show Choice Award
Seen it all before? Well with that in mind, we setout to bring you only the very best or should we say the “Ultimate” from the 28th annual International Motorcycle Show. Yes, we have shifted through the “has been” and the obvious in order to serve you, our discerning readers, the interesting and the “what’s hot” from the 13-city motorcycle extravaganza.
Our choice award in the category of "Adventure Sport" goes to the 2009 Moto Guzzi Stelvio 1200 4V. Moto Guzzi was founded over 89 years ago when Carlo Guzzi was unable to find a motorcycle that suited his needs. This specialization has continued as the Industry continues to produce motorcycles for specific niches. To that end, the Stelvio Pass, the historical and rugged 84-hairpin mountain stretch, inspired the birth of our “Adventure Sport” selection for 2009. The 2009 Stelvio 1200 4V brings the Italian enthused form and function we appreciate at Ultimate Motorcycling.
Adventure Sport is an increasingly crowded but growing niche, as it represents the fullest expression of motorcycling “freedom”. For this go anywhere do anything category, the Stevlio leans as the Tower of Pisa towards the on-road verse off-road adventures. With available TomTom Rider 2nd Edition Navigation and Guzzi side cases, the Stelvio provides a fastidious two-up platform to take you across cities, over mountain passes or till road’s end… and then further.
Built around the new 90-degree V-twin “Quattrovalvole” engine, loyalist will quickly recognize the design. With 103hp, heaps of torque and a reasonable 471-pound dry weight, the Stelvio appears to be an interesting option to the proven and adored BMW R1200 GS. The adjustable windshield and convenient glove box are creature comforts that should not be overlooked... Moto Guzzi got this package right. Built with Italian passion and priced similarly to others in the category, the MSRP for the Stelvio is $14,990.
