COR Boat Racing
For the first time, Michael Jordan Motorsports (MJM) comes to Topeka, Kansas as the team takes to the track for the Tornado Nationals at Heartland Park. The 2.5 mile long road course has not hosted AMA Pro Racing action since 1991. The facility has made a number of track modifications in preparation for the return of the superbikes and MJM riders Aaron Yates and Geoff May look forward to checking out this new circuit on the AMA calendar.
Official Round 9 action begins on Friday, July 31 with practice, qualifying and Superpole for the feature American Superbike races that will take place Saturday and Sunday.
Jordan Suzuki #23
Aaron Yates and the #23 Jordan Suzuki team head into the final three rounds of the season looking to make MJM history. Having strung together a series of podium finishes and coming .18 of a second away from MJM's first Superbike win last weekend at Mid-Ohio, the #23 squad's confidence is high and they want to reach that top step on the podium. The riders' lack of familiarity with Heartland Park will undoubtedly reshuffle the deck for Round 9 and the veteran Yates will take full advantage, utilizing his trademark hard-charging style. Yates currently sits eighth in the championship with 198 points with only three points separating sixth through eighth places.
Aaron Yates Speaks...
"New tracks are always interesting for us, so I'm excited about this weekend," said Yates. "The AMA series hasn't been out this way in some time and it will be nice to put on a good show for the fans in the Topeka area. Our Jordan Suzuki has been strong the last few rounds and the crew has been working hard. We'll get the bikes out there and see how it goes."
National Guard Jordan Suzuki #54
Round 8 of the AMA Championship saw some of the closest racing in recent AMA Superbike history with scant tenths of a second covering the top 10 riders right up until the flag flew. Geoff May on the National Guard Jordan Suzuki was right in the thick of things last round and now brings his elbow-dragging speed to Topeka for Round 9, looking to get his #54 Suzuki back on the podium. Having captured three podium finishes already in 2009, in his first true Superbike season, the Georgia rider looks to close out the season strong with a return to the rostrum at the Tornado Nationals.
May has 199 championship points, good for seventh in the standings, and sits just two points behind sixth position.
Geoff May Speaks...
"This is a race I've been getting ready for all season," said May. "Active military get free entry to this weekend's racing and the Kansas National Guard branch is right around the corner from the track. With that in mind, I want nothing more than to get my National Guard Jordan Suzuki at the front of field and get a top result for all the men and women who make this possible for me and the team."
